Financials: Taxes

Written by Taylor Stewart

Use Financials → Tax Summary to review the modeled tax result that currently drives the client plan. The page uses the selected tax scenario; if none is selected, it falls back to the first available scenario.

Which tax scenario does Financials show?

The page identifies the scenario name and tax year above the summary. Confirm both before interpreting the result. To choose or change the plan’s tax scenario, open the Taxes planning workspace and set the intended scenario there.

If no calculated scenario is available, Financials shows No tax scenario yet and offers Open tax planning. Create or complete a tax scenario, run the calculation, then return to Financials.

What does the Tax Summary include?

The top measures include:

  • Total modeled tax;

  • All-in effective rate;

  • Federal marginal rate;

  • Combined marginal rate; and

  • Safe harbor target, when available.

Income & tax picture shows gross income, adjusted gross income, federal taxable income, total modeled tax, and the federal, state, and payroll tax mix. Payments and rates shows federal withholding, state withholding, estimated payments, any applied prior-year overpayment, total payments, marginal rates, and safe-harbor information.

Why do the Tax Summary results look unexpected?

Check the scenario name and year first. Then review filing status, state, income, deductions, capital gains, withholding, estimated payments, overpayments, and imported tax facts in the Taxes workspace. Office → Plan Cleanup can identify when no scenario is selected or imported tax facts have not been reconciled into the plan.

Financials is a summary, not a tax return and not a filing instruction. The result depends on the modeled facts and calculation rules in the selected scenario. Confirm material planning conclusions with the client’s tax professional.

What is the difference between Tax Summary and Tax Plan?

Financials Tax Summary explains the modeled scenario currently driving the client plan. Planning → Taxes → Plan lets the advisor select a base scenario, review current tax metrics and opportunity counts, open or compare scenarios, review returns, use calculator shortcuts, and inspect detailed analysis.

The Tax Plan opportunity queue and This year’s plan strategy builder are currently hidden. Advisors cannot use the former Add to plan, Dismiss, Restore, modeled-amount, Save as scenario, or Create changes controls from the current page.

To model a strategy, copy the baseline under Planning → Taxes → Scenarios, change only the relevant inputs, and use Compare. After the recommendation is adopted, add it to Changes and put implementation work in Tasks. Use Financials to present the selected modeled picture.
