Use Changes in a client's sidebar to record recommendations, set target dates, and track whether an intended outcome has happened. Write Changes for clients to read: a Guide can display them and let clients mark them complete.
Should I use Changes, Insights, or Tasks?
On a client's Changes page, a Change records a recommendation or decision, such as “Increase Jordan's retirement contribution to 10% with the next payroll cycle.” Adding that sentence doesn't update Jordan's savings records or carry out the recommendation.
Insights, a tab within Changes, presents findings from saved client data for advisor review. See Insights: Finding Planning Gaps and Opportunities for checking, accepting, and dismissing findings.
Tasks record implementation work and an assignee. Advisors manage them in Office → Tasks or practice Tasks; clients open Tasks in their portal. See Tasks: Create, Assign, and Track Client Work for task procedures.
For example, a Change can describe an account consolidation, with separate Tasks to prepare paperwork and collect signatures. Confirm the outcome before marking the Change complete. In Present mode, Insights and View insights are hidden, while the header Change button remains available.
How do I add a Change from a client page?
In an advisor client file, use the header's Change button to add a recommendation while reviewing any planning area. On a narrow screen, this can appear as a plus icon with the accessible name “Add change.”
Select Change to open New change.
Read any draft text already present, then enter Description.
Choose Category, such as Changes to Investment Allocation if that category is available for this household.
Enter an optional Target date.
Select Add, then open Changes to check the saved recommendation. If you chose a hidden category, open the filter icon and select Show hidden sections to find it. Hidden categories are excluded from every Guide for this household.
Add requires a category and a nonempty description. If “Change could not be created. Try again.” appears, keep the draft open and retry; Cancel clears the draft.
For a stock sale involving losses and vesting RSUs, describe your reviewed action and conditions in client-ready language. A Change doesn't calculate tax effects, change holdings, or place trades. Investment-specific entry routes are covered in Investments: Reviewing Holdings and Portfolio Detail and Comparing a Client's Portfolio to a Target.
How do I add or edit a Change directly in a category?
On a client's Changes page, By Grouping lets advisors create and edit recommendations within a category without opening New change.
Find the intended category and select New change.
Type the recommendation in the blank row. The row is created immediately, and description edits save as made.
To set timing, point to the row and select its calendar icon, then choose a date. A dated item shows a timing label that opens the date control; Clear removes its target date.
There isn't a separate Save button for this route. A blank row stays, and a Guide that includes it displays “Untitled change.”
Enter moves to the next row or creates a blank Change at the end of a category. Ctrl+Enter inserts a blank Change after the current row. Backspace in an empty description deletes that Change immediately, without confirmation, and unlinks any Tasks; those Tasks remain.
To remove a row with confirmation, use its trash icon and select Delete.
On a wide screen, drag an item's handle to reorder it within its category. If New change is missing, open the filter icon and change Status from Completed to All or Not completed.
How do I open a Change's details or move it to another category?
On a client's Changes page, the Open change arrow opens a drawer for the recommendation, its dates, linked Tasks, and What matters links.
Find the recommendation and select its Open change arrow.
Edit the recommendation text or choose Category to move it to another category in this household.
Set or change Target date. These edits save as you make them; there is no final Save button.
In Tasks, select Add task to create linked work, or select an existing Task's text to open its details.
The drawer also shows Done for completed Changes, plus Last updated and Created. Use its arrows to move through Changes in the list you opened. Its Delete change control asks for confirmation and keeps linked Tasks in the task list, no longer tied to the deleted recommendation. Moving a Change to a hidden category removes it from client-facing Guide blocks, so review the destination before changing Category.
How do I connect a Change to what matters to a client?
In a Change's drawer, an advisor can link the recommendation to the household's objective, values, goals, or concerns. These links show why the work belongs in the plan without changing the underlying financial records.
Open Changes and select the recommendation's Open change arrow.
In On What matters, select Link to a goal, value, or concern.
Choose an entry and check that it appears. Links save immediately; an entry's remove control removes that link without deleting either record.
You can also open an item on What matters and select Link a change or New change. Tasks under a Change follow that Change's What matters links. In a client-visible Guide, the matching What matters block can show the recommendation and its tasks, including advisor tasks, when Show what we're doing is on. Changes in hidden categories and their tasks stay out.
See What Matters: Objective, Values, Goals, and Concerns for the source page.
How do I review Changes by date or completion status?
On a client's Changes page, By Timing groups recommendations by target-date horizon; By Grouping groups them by category. Status, Date range, and grouping choices are saved for the household, so another viewer can start with those same filters. These choices don't complete recommendations or alter their descriptions.
Open the filter icon, accessible as “Filter changes.” Choose All, Not completed, or Completed under Status, and select a Date range when you need one timing group. Clear resets these filters and turns off Show hidden sections.
The timing groups are Next 30 days, 30 to 90 days, 3 to 12 months, and Long-term. An undated Change and a Change whose target date has passed both appear in Next 30 days. A Change's target date is separate from a Task's due date.
For meeting preparation, check each open recommendation's source facts, wording, target date, and linked work. Review the client's saved Guide separately because its Changes component has its own filters.
How do I link a Task to a Change?
On a client's Changes page, add linked Tasks from a recommendation's row to track the work needed to carry it out.
Point to a Change with no linked Tasks and select + task.
Type a description in the new Task row. It starts assigned to the advisor.
If the Change already has Tasks, select its done/total count, such as 1/3, to expand them. Select Add task in that list to create another linked Task.
You can also open the Change's drawer and select Add task. To attach existing work, open its Task drawer from Office → Tasks and select Add to a change.
The count shows completed Tasks out of all Tasks linked to that Change. Each Task keeps its own assignee, due date, and completion state. See Tasks: Create, Assign, and Track Client Work for editing those fields and client visibility.
How do I complete or reopen a Change?
On a client's Changes page, select a recommendation's checkbox to mark it complete after confirming its outcome. The checkbox's accessible name is “Mark change done,” including when you clear a completed item.
Find the recommendation. Select its linked-Task count, such as 1/3, to expand and review those Tasks.
Select its checkbox. If incomplete linked Tasks remain, Kerdora asks “Mark this change as done?”
Select Mark done only if the recommendation is complete despite that remaining work.
Completing a Change leaves its linked Tasks unchanged. Completing Tasks also leaves their Change unchanged; each completion records a separate decision.
To reopen a Change, open the filter icon, choose Completed or All, then clear its checkbox. In a Guide, an advisor or client can use a visible Change's checkbox to complete or reopen it. That Guide interaction updates the same Change and doesn't show the linked-Task confirmation.
How do I delete a Change without deleting its Tasks?
On a client's Changes page, deleting a recommendation keeps its linked Tasks but removes their connection to that Change.
Point to the recommendation and select its trash icon, accessible as “Delete change.”
Review the “Delete this change?” dialog. When linked Tasks exist, the dialog says they will stay in the task list.
Select Delete.
Open Office → Tasks afterward to review any remaining work. Those Tasks keep their descriptions, assignees, due dates, and completion states.
Use completion when a recommendation has been carried out and should remain in history. Use deletion for a record you intend to remove. There isn't an undo control for deletion; adding a replacement Change creates a new record and doesn't reattach the surviving Tasks.
How do I customize Change categories for one client?
On a client's Changes page, custom sections belong to that household. Shared categories can be hidden and reordered there, but their names and deletion are managed through Templates.
Select By Grouping, then New section.
Type in Enter section name.... The name saves as you edit.
On a wide screen, drag a section's handle to reorder it. Point to a section and select its eye icon to hide it.
To restore a hidden section, open the filter icon, select Show hidden sections, then use that section's crossed-eye icon. Showing hidden sections only reveals them for review; using the section's eye control changes its hidden state.
A hidden category is excluded from every Changes Guide component for that household. Hiding doesn't delete its recommendations. To delete a custom section, use its trash icon and confirm Delete; this removes the section and its Changes while leaving their Tasks unlinked.
How do I change category defaults for future clients?
In Templates → "Changes" Categories, advisors manage the category defaults used when new households are created. Editing these defaults doesn't immediately rewrite existing households.
Select New Category, enter its name, and select Confirm.
To rename a default, edit its name and leave the field or press Enter.
Drag categories to change their order. To remove a default, use its trash icon and confirm Delete.
The starting categories cover accounts, cash flow, investment allocation, procedures/documents, and insurance. Your saved defaults can differ from those starting names.
Use a household's Changes page for a section needed only by that client. Guide category selections control presentation; they don't create household categories. Review the separate Sync to all clients action before applying template changes to existing households.
What happens when I sync Change categories to all clients?
In Templates → "Changes" Categories, Sync to all clients applies your saved category templates across the existing households you can access. This screen doesn't offer a selected-household sync.
Review your category templates and check existing client recommendations before removing a template category.
Select Sync to all clients.
Read “Sync category templates to all clients?” and select Sync only when that scope is intended.
Sync adds missing shared categories, renames matching shared categories, and deletes shared categories removed from your templates. Deleting a category also deletes its Changes; linked Tasks survive without those links. Household-only custom sections remain.
Sync doesn't reorder matching categories already in a household. Reorder those on that client's Changes page. To exclude a category from one Guide, use Choose sections in that Guide's Changes component and select the categories to keep. To exclude it from all of one client's Guides, hide that household's category. Neither action requires deleting a template or syncing across clients.
Which Changes can a client see?
In the client portal, My plan can show recommendations through a Guide's Changes component. Portal navigation doesn't include the advisor's Changes or Insights destinations, but that navigation difference isn't a privacy control for recommendation text.
The Changes component excludes hidden household categories and applies its own status, category, and horizon choices. A client can complete or reopen a displayed Change using its checkbox; clients don't get description editing in the Guide. Neither an advisor's nor a client's checkbox carries out the underlying financial action.
Client-assigned Tasks appear on the portal's Tasks page. A Guide's Tasks component is separate and can also display advisor-assigned Tasks, depending on its Assignee selection. Its checkboxes are read-only.
Don't use a Change for confidential working notes. For note handling, see Notes in Kerdora: Internal vs Client-Visible. For broader portal controls, see Control What Clients Can See and Edit.
Can I add or edit Changes while reviewing a Guide?
On a household's Guides page, advisors can add and open recommendations directly in a Changes block. These actions update the household's Changes immediately, separately from saving a Guide layout.
Open Guides and select a Guide containing a Changes block.
Select New change under the category you want and type the recommendation. When grouped by timing, there is one New change; it uses the category of the most recently created Change in the block's included categories, or the first included category if none have Changes. Change its Category in the drawer if needed. Leave the row when finished; an empty new row is removed when you leave it.
Select an existing recommendation's text to open its drawer, then edit the wording, category, target date, Tasks, or What matters links.
New change is available only when the block's filters can show an unfinished, undated recommendation: Status must include unfinished Changes and Horizon must include Next 30 days. A visible category is also required. Use the header Change button if the block's filters don't offer an insertion point, then review the result on Changes.
Clients can still complete or reopen displayed Changes with their checkboxes; they don't receive the advisor's New change or drawer-edit controls. Printed Guides have no editing controls.
How do I choose which Changes appear in a Guide?
In a client's Guide editor, select a Changes component to set the recommendations that component displays. For adding a component and saving or delivering a Guide, see Guide Components: Content, Filters, and Scope and Delivering a Guide to a Client.
Open the household's Guides, select the intended Guide, and choose Edit guide.
Select its Changes component to open its content settings.
Set Status to All, Completed, or Not completed.
Set Sections to Show all or Choose sections. With Choose sections, use Add category and the visible-category list to select and order categories.
Set Horizon and Group by. By section can also show a horizon chip on dated items.
These settings belong to that component; hidden household categories are unavailable here. Finish with Done, choose where the changes go, then Save; see Delivering a Guide to a Client for the save choices and their scope.
Important: choosing no categories shows all non-hidden categories. To omit Changes entirely, remove the component instead. Check the saved Guide's contents before delivery, including any other Changes components.
Why is a Change missing from a Guide?
On a client's Guides page, a missing recommendation usually requires checking both its household category and that Guide's Changes component.
Open Changes, choose By Grouping, and open the filter icon. Select All and All horizons, then Show hidden sections if it appears.
Find the recommendation. If its category is hidden, use the category's crossed-eye icon to show it again.
Return to Guides, select the intended Guide, and open Edit guide. Select the Changes component and check its Status, Sections, and Horizon selections.
A completed recommendation won't appear in a component set to Not completed. A dated recommendation can fall outside the selected horizon. An empty component can show “No changes found.”
Confirm the client's visible and default Guide separately; selecting a Guide for your advisor view doesn't set the client's starting Guide. See Delivering a Guide to a Client for that procedure.
