Inviting a Client to the Portal

Written by Taylor Stewart
Updated this week

To invite a client to the Client Portal, go to the client's Profile tab, click Household, and find the person you want to invite. Click on their name to open their details, then use the invite option to send them a portal invitation. The client will receive an email with a link to set up their account and log in.

The Client Portal is where clients can view their Guide, link their accounts, upload documents, update their cash flow information, and see tasks you've assigned to them.

When to Invite a Client

You don't have to invite clients right away. Many advisors prefer to:

  1. Build out the client's data first — upload documents, review extracted information, and make sure the profile is accurate.

  2. Set up the planning modules — review Goals, identify Changes to Be Made, and build out the Guide.

  3. Polish the Guide — make sure the Guide looks the way you want before the client sees it.

  4. Then invite — once everything is ready, send the portal invitation so the client logs into a complete, professional experience.

That said, you can invite a client at any point — even during the initial onboarding flow when you first create the client. The invite step appears at the end of the new client setup wizard.

How to Send the Invitation

  1. Open the client from the Clients page.

  2. Go to Profile > Household.

  3. Click on the adult you want to invite (you can invite one or both adults in a household).

  4. Click the invite option to send a portal invitation.

  5. The client receives an email with instructions to create their account and log in.

What the Client Sees

When a client accepts the invitation and logs in, they land on their Guide — the deliverable you built for them on the Overview tab. From the portal, clients can:

  • View their Guide — See all the sections you've included, formatted with your firm's branding (logo and colors).

  • Link accounts — Connect their bank, investment, and other financial accounts through Account Aggregation for live data.

  • Upload documents — Send you files directly through the portal.

  • Update cash flow — Edit their income, expenses, savings, and debt payment information.

  • See tasks — View any action items you've assigned to them.

Clients cannot access your planning modules, change goal assumptions, use the Extractor, or see anything you haven't explicitly included in their Guide.

Inviting Multiple Household Members

If a client household has two adults (for example, a married couple), you can invite both of them separately. Each person gets their own login and can access the same Client Portal for their household.

What If a Client Doesn't Get the Email?

If the client says they didn't receive the invitation email:

  • Ask them to check their spam or junk folder.

  • Confirm you have the correct email address on file (check the client's details in the Household tab).

  • You can resend the invitation from the same place you originally sent it.

Managing Portal Access

You can manage a client's portal access at any time from their Household information. If you need to revoke access or resend an invitation, those options are available in the client's profile.
