A document checklist gives clients a list of files to share during Guided Onboarding. Build the reusable list in Templates → Document checklist, then include it in a personal invitation. Checklist responses belong to a household; template edits apply to future assignments.
How do I edit my document checklist template?
An advisor edits the practice's reusable requests in Templates → Document checklist. A new practice starts with 13 requests: Government-issued ID; Tax returns; Pay stubs or income records; Social Security statements; Bank statements; Investment account statements; Retirement account statements; Insurance policies; Estate documents; Loan and mortgage statements; Employee benefits and equity compensation; Business documents; and Something else. Edit or remove requests that don’t fit your process.
Select Add item and type a specific request, such as “Latest 401(k) or TSP statement.”
Edit existing item text directly. To remove a request, select the trash-can icon at the end of its row.
Add any extra requests separately, or make an existing request more specific, such as the statement date or tax years you need.
Select Save template and check for “Template saved.”
The template supports up to 50 items, with 200 characters per item. Complete or remove blank rows before saving.
Cancel discards unsaved template edits. If saving fails, the editor retains the draft and displays an error; correct the problem and retry.
Choose requests that fit your intake process. Saving a list doesn't send an invitation or collect any files.
How do I restore the default document requests?
In Templates → Document checklist, Reset to default list replaces the list on screen with Kerdora's 13 default requests as unsaved changes. The button appears only when the current list differs from the default.
Select Reset to default list.
Review the requests and make any changes your practice needs.
Select Save template to keep the list, or Cancel to return to your previously saved template.
Resetting doesn't change checklists already assigned to households or their responses. It changes the practice template only after you save; future checklist assignments use that saved list.
Do template changes update existing clients?
Saving changes in Templates → Document checklist updates the reusable practice template, without replacing existing household checklists.
A household receives a copy when an advisor includes the checklist in a Guided Onboarding invitation and selects Copy Invite Link. That copy keeps its own items and client responses. If a household already has a checklist, the invitation shows “Document checklist already included” and preserves its progress.
For example, adding a request for a benefits summary to your template won't add it to every household already in onboarding. A later invitation for the same household won't replace its existing list either.
The checklist belongs to the household, so adults in that household share its progress. If an existing household needs different requests, contact Kerdora Support about the available options. Don't promise a practice-wide update from a template edit.
How is a saved checklist included in Guided Onboarding?
In an adult's personal invitation, choose Guided Onboarding and select Include my document checklist before Copy Invite Link. The checklist is optional; saving the template alone doesn't include it automatically.
Personal invitations are available through Invite beside an adult on Profile → Household, Plan Setup’s Invite clients step, or Profile → Accounts → Connections → Invite client to link, then Invite beside an adult. “Inviting a Client to the Portal” covers the complete invitation procedure. The same checklist can accompany Upload Only or AI Extract; those modes determine document processing, not checklist completion.
If the invitation says “No document checklist template yet,” your saved template has no items. Select Build your checklist in Templates, save at least 1 item, then reopen the invitation.
If the template can't load, the invitation explains that you can refresh or continue without a checklist. Choosing Straight to Guides doesn't add an onboarding checklist.
Keep a household's existing checklist in mind before sending another invitation: its current requests and progress take precedence over your newly edited template.
How does a client mark requested documents complete?
On Guided Onboarding's Documents step, clients check Document checklist items after sharing the requested files.
Upload the requested documents using Choose files and Upload.
Check each applicable checklist item after sharing it.
Select N/A for a request that doesn't apply.
Select Undo beside an N/A item to make it outstanding again, or clear a checkmark when a checked item still needs work.
These responses save to the household. If the form says it couldn't save the checklist, retry the response and check its displayed state.
A checkmark records that a client, or an advisor through Preview form, marked a request as shared. It doesn't match a file automatically, check whether a statement is current, approve an extraction proposal, or verify that all requested pages arrived. The advisor still reviews the actual documents and follows up on gaps.
How does an advisor see a household’s checklist progress?
An advisor can see current checklist responses through Profile → Household → Preview form beside an adult, then the Documents step in Guided Onboarding.
The Document checklist shows checked requests, requests marked N/A, and requests still outstanding. This is the household’s live checklist. An advisor can check or clear an item, select N/A, or use Undo to return an N/A item to outstanding; those changes save for the household and appear to its clients.
Review actual uploaded files before changing a response. A checkmark doesn’t verify document contents, extraction accuracy, or whether all requested pages arrived. Viewing this form also exposes live household answers, so edits elsewhere in Preview form affect real client information.
Can Dora update my document checklist template?
No. Dora can’t change the practice’s document checklist template; an advisor saves those changes in Templates → Document checklist.
Enter each new request with Add item, edit any existing request text, then select Save template and check for “Template saved.” If saving fails, the editor retains your draft so you can correct the problem and retry. A list suggested in a conversation hasn’t changed this template.
A household Task or Change is separate from the reusable checklist. Check the template editor before preparing invitations, and review which requests will be copied to a household that doesn’t already have a checklist.
How is a document checklist different from a document folder template?
In Templates, Document checklist defines requests for clients, while Document folders defines how files are organized. A checklist records household responses such as shared or N/A; those responses don’t move files into folders.
Saving a checklist doesn’t create folders, upload documents, or approve extracted information. Including a checklist in an invitation gives that household its own copy of the requests, and later practice-template edits don’t replace it. Use the checklist to track what a household says it has supplied, then inspect actual files in Documents to confirm their contents and completeness.
